About the Music:
Buckersfield®️ – From Oklahoma Roots to California Twang,
spotlighting the essence of Bakersfield Americana.
Buckersfield pays tribute to the pioneers and torchbearers of the iconic Bakersfield Sound. The show honors trailblazers Wynn Stewart and Billy Mize, alongside the legendary Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and features music from Dwight Yoakam, the Desert Rose Band, The Mavericks, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Rodney Crowell, J.D. Souther, The Eagles, and more —artists who carried the Bakersfield sound forward.
Born in Central California’s honky tonks, the Bakersfield Sound has deep ties to Oklahoma. Families traveled Route 66 west to the San Joaquin Valley during the Dust Bowl, carrying their songs, grit, and spirit with them. Merle Haggard’s family came from Checotah, while Buck Owens made appearances on Oklahoma City’s Mathis Brothers Country Social, connecting him to Oklahoma audiences while rising to fame in Bakersfield and a to a nationwide audience.
Members of the Buckersfield Band individually toured nationally, including a run of dates opening for Buck Owens himself, Rodney Crowell on the Diamonds and Dust Tour, in addition to opening for many other National Acts influenced by the Iconic Bakersfield Sound — a direct connection that keeps this tradition alive.
With Oklahoma roots of their own, the Buckersfield Band carries that legacy proudly, delivering authentic Telecaster twang, energy, and soul that keeps the Bakersfield Sound alive for new generations.
